History
My first recollection of appreciating anything that had to do with art was- Cartoons. Like any child, I was fascinated with the illusion of the pen. I did not know at an early age why, or what it was about. I grew up in a farming community, very poor. Very poor! What I could decipher and view from any publication at hand was what my early influences were. Those images were extremely varied.
Unfortunately during my military years that followed, art was not something that was embraced, at all. My military experience as a combat engineer gave me some interesting insight into the future that awaited. The greatest lesson that I learned in the military was teamwork. Teamwork is not something that most artist talk, or reflect about. However in my art, I pride myself in pulling all of the resources in my life together to obtain the best possible interpretation for my artistic vision.
Being raised in a very strict family household, and then spending a complete four year tour of duty, I felt an inner rebellion. That is when I thought of Pirates, and what that vision meant to me. Searching out every piece of Pirate literature I could find, I then found a history- that to me, was not only fascinating, but something that creatively in art had not been seen in its full potential.
This started my quest.
And a quest it was. Pulling from all of my life experiences, my knowledge of the late golden age of the 1600's, I started to delve into Charcoal and canvas, experimenting with the ideas that I had.
You will find by viewing the samples of my art, a lot of my ideas in creating a drawing, encompass different ideas combined together to make a dramatic, romantic, realistic composite image. These are among my favorite pieces of art.
Fortunately, the Pyratical Period offers a lot of subject matter, and I will continue to draw on this period for my inspiration and creativity.

The Hampton Blackbeard Festival - First weekend in June Annually
I
have been working with the Hampton Blackbeard Festival, since 2001. I would
like to invite you to join us in a remarkable adventure. This festival is based
in downtown Hampton, Va. on the waterfront. We are a nautical themed festival
with merchants, wenches, the Royal Navy and most of all pirates! For the weekend
festival we all take a historical walk back through time to when Blackbeard
lost his head in 1718, and it was hung on the banks of the Hampton River. The
Hampton Blackbeard Festival also has the only on water live reenactment of Blackbeards
Capture.
This is one of the most colorful outdoor waterfront festivals on the east coast
-full of history, entertainment, and most of all, FUN. The festival is set in
downtown Hampton Virginia with all of the amenities one could imagine. Book
your rooms at the Radisson Hotel Hampton now for you and your family. The Hampton
Blackbeard Festival is the first weekend in June each year.
A Word About Blackbeard
Edward
Teach, alias Blackbeard, more than any other, can be called North Carolina's
own pirate, although he was not a native of the colony... As is the case with
all pirates, his origin is obscure. His name originally, it seems was Edward
Drummond, and he began his career as an honest seaman, sailing out of his home
port of Bristol, England. He is seldom known by that name, for after he became
a pirate he began calling himself Edward Teach, sometimes spelled in the records
as Thatch, Tache, or even Tatch. Yet it was as Blackbeard that he was, and still
is , known, and it was under this name that the people of his generation knew
him, 'a swaggering, merciless brute..

Blackbeards Crew
Blackbeards Crew is a full fledged historical reenactment ensemble that performs at many Pyratical festivals, events, and educational venues. I have been associated with the crew since 2003 and have performed with the crew at such notable events as the Pepsi America Sail in Beaufort NC and The Jacksonville Florida King Fish Tournament Series AKA.
Blackbeards crew is a unique team that is dedicated to the authentic reproduction and visualization of actually living and breathing in the time period. Authentic song, dance, sword battles, or sea faring stories told by the hearth, Blackbeards Crew is one of the top Pirate reenactment troops available today.

Living the Dream, ON BOARD!
My Pyratical wife Myla and I have had the fortunate opportunity to live on board a vintage 1969 Eggharbour that we
have both painstakingly refurbished since the day we purchased the vessel.
We have traveled to many Pirate and Pyratical events with our mobile floating historical home.
There is always something to do on board. I had the honor of marrying in full pirate attire with my lovley bride\ wench,
at the 2002 Blackbeard Festival. This was the first and only authentic Pirate wedding in Hamptons history.
Now we dont spend all of our time on board, I have studios on "Dry Land"
as well as homes, automobiles, and even a historical vintage 1991 Chevy Dulley Pick Up Truck!!
The old Chevy is a true friend when setting up for art shows!!
Spending as much time on board as we do as a family gives us both a unique inspiration and
ideal that is inherent in the outcome of my artwork. There is nothing more inspirational than sitting on a boat,
doodling my favorite creative thought.
If you are ever in Hampton Virginia and you are not able to attend on of our art shows,
please contact me for a tour of my studio. All you have to do is contact me via email request.
